Here’s an interesting little video (can’t remember where I first saw it): a 1962 pilot for a Paul Lynde/Will Hutchins sitcom on CBS called Howie. It was written and directed by Wiliam Asher, based on a play by Phoebe Ephron (Nora’s mother), and produced by Sidney Sheldon.

The reason it didn’t make it? The Dick Van Dyke Show was supposed to be canceled after its first season and replaced by this show, but then it was renewed. Asher retooled the show in 1972 and it became The Paul Lynde Show, which aired on ABC for one season.
